Stocking a First Aid Kit

Stocking a First Aid Kit is an important exercise that requires some thought. 


  • Who will you be supporting? 
  • What ages? 
  • Are there any special medical considerations?
  • Will you be using the kit at home? In the car? While traveling? While hiking? While camping? At a sporting event?
  • What activities will you be supporting?
  • What are the most common injuries/illnesses where you will have your first aid kit?


All of these things should be taken into account when deciding what you want in your Firsr Aid Kit.  Below are some suggestions for a starting point.

Suggested Items in a First Aid Kit

First Aid Kit Contents

Basics

At minimum, please consider putting the following in your kit. Consider the number of people you are supporting

  • Fabric Bandages – multi-size pack
  • Comfort tape/Self-adhering wrap
  • KT tape
  • Surgical or Paper tape
  • Ace Bandage(s)
  • Gauze pads and Roller gauze
  • Non-stick pads
  • Scissors or Trauma Shears
  • Triangle bandages
  • Non-latex gloves 
  • Baby aspirin 
  • Benadryl
  • Pain-relievers (Tylenol, Advil)
  • Duct tape
  • Sharpie, Pen, and Small notebook 
  • Tweezers
  • Pocket resuscitation mask
  • Ziplock bag (for trash/used items)
  • El

Nice to Haves

The following items are nice additions


  • Silicon tape for sensitive skin
  • Quick clot
  • Saline wash/spray
  • Eye wash kit
  • Moleskin
  • Waterproof bandages
  • Butterfly closures
  • SAM splint rolls
  • Anti-itch cream/spray
  • Aloe vera gel or burn spray
  • Tubular Bandage/Elastic Net
  • Feminine Hygiene products

Additional Items to consider

Depending on how what activities you intend to do, you may wish to consider additional items:


  • Windlass tourniquet*
  • Hemostatic dressing
  • Emergency blanket(s) - one per group member
  • Small flashlight
  • Naloxone* (for opoid overdose)
  • "IsraeliI bandage/Trauma dressing
  • Protein/Energy Bars
